Plant-Only Tank Question

I want to set up a high-tech tank to grow plants only. Mainly I want it for epiphytes (or more accurately, rheophytes, I rekkun) to use in a planned Hillstream Loach 50G tank w/a manifold system such as what Martin Thoene designed years ago & is shown on https://www.loaches.com/articles/river-tank-manifold-design. Most of the tank will, naturally, be rocks & hidey holes/caves, but I can't imagine having no plants & even hope to have a back "ledge" toward the top w/something like dwarf sag & maybe even some hairgrass in a very small area in front. Or not, if that doesn't work.

I have the usuals like Java ferns (several varieties) & moss, other mosses, various anubias & buces, but not as many as I'd like or even need at the moment. I am looking forward to the upcoming auction in hopes of finding more, but for now I'm asking if it…

heaters and thermometers

Does any member have experience with the hygger 150W Submersible Aquarium Heater with Digital Temperature Controller, Mini Fish Tank Heater for 20–30 Gallon Tanks. I am disappointed with my Eheim Jager heaters bc they are difficult to calibrate.

Also, what are members recommendations for a good quality aquarium thermometer. The cheap $5 digital thermometers don't seem to last long and need frequent battery changes.

Thanks for your comments/suggestions.

I use JW Pet Fusion Smart Temp Aquarium Thermometers in all of my tanks. They are not digital nor "smart" LOL but they are flat against the glass for easy reading and held in place by a magnet. Some minor drawbacks: algae can grow on them over time and, if you have cats, they will be happy to knock the magnet off the glass from time to time.

siamese algae eater attacks gouramis

I would like the members opinion on what to do about this siamese algae eater. It was raised in my tank from a small size. Now it is quite large and delights in torturing the 4 pearl gouramis in my tank. This happens particularly at feeding time.

This aggressive behavior won't improve over time and might even worsen. It may be time to part with the Siamese algae eater. If you wish to do so, you may enter the fish in the club's mini-auction. If you join the club's membership ($20), you will receive a 70/30 split of proceeds from the sale.  Non-club members receive a 50/50 split of proceeds from their items.
