heaters and thermometers

Does any member have experience with the hygger 150W Submersible Aquarium Heater with Digital Temperature Controller, Mini Fish Tank Heater for 20–30 Gallon Tanks. I am disappointed with my Eheim Jager heaters bc they are difficult to calibrate.

Also, what are members recommendations for a good quality aquarium thermometer. The cheap $5 digital thermometers don't seem to last long and need frequent battery changes.

Thanks for your comments/suggestions.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, Errol. I have 2 types of Hygger digital heaters (2 of each, actually) and both are great. Two are 100W, & heat a 30 G just fine. I was using 1 in a tub trying to grow soft algae on rocks & didn't notice the water had evaporated enough to leave the heater exposed. The dang thing had partially melted (!!!???), yet months later it's still going fine. I don't see them available on Amazon anymore, but I like them for their simplicity, plus heating more water than they said, which I think was for 10-20G tanks.

I 1st had two 200W with separate thermometer (lots 'o' cords), & they're both still functioning perfectly. Problem with that is that the suction cup on the thermometer/temp control part came loose & that apparently was knocked out to behind the tank when my husband did a WC for me one day. It has no "stop heating at lethal temps" function & I woke the next morning to all my "pups" (Panda corys) dead. It still makes me sick.

So, I'd only warn anyone getting something w/a separate thermometer/controller to be super careful about that! I had kept them at ~73-74 degrees F, but the house temp was ~71, so it kept trying to heat it more all night long. I don't remember how hot the water got, but I could tell before I even turned on the lights b/c it felt like hot bath water. I'd had that group of adorable corys for almost 5 years, plus had given away hundreds of their babies. I still grieve them. Two of them are in my avatar.
